The importance of keeping your website updated

Business owners typically work really hard at creating compelling and engaging websites but may tend to forget the ongoing maintenance that any good website requires. The following are four explanations as to why maintaining an updated website is key to fully optimising a website:

  1. Boost SEO ranking

Regularly updating your website allows for search engines to visit your site by means of crawling and if there is new content each time, it will boost your rankings with them. If a site has not been updated in a while, the search engines flag your website as inactive and rankings may begin to drop as a result of no activity.

  1. Stay on top of the latest security patches

It is important to keep your website updated with the latest security patches and malware protection. Everyone connected to the internet is at risk to cybercrime or cyberattacks. Hackers are infamous for uploading malware onto websites without the owner being aware of it and the damage done to the site has many unfortunate consequences. Prevention is better than cure.

  1. Technology is constantly changing

Stay up to date with current trends. Making regular but smaller changes over time is a great approach when wanting to keep your business relevant to what’s happening around you. New software and/or hardware are good ways to contribute to an increase in efficiency for your business.

  1. Keep an eye on the competition

Monitor what your competition is doing, or at least other websites that stand out. Keeping up with the changes means that you will be aware of new opportunities and grow your company’s revenue.

Keeping your site updated will also develop a strong sense of loyalty between your brand and your customers which prospects will usually find appealing. A consistent system should be put in place to ensure that your website meets the needs of your online users and ultimately increases traffic on the site.
