3 Top tips to eliminate comment spam on your website

Comment spam is an unfortunate problem that all website owners encounter on the internet. Most types of comment spam are automated and posted by spam bots.  You need to find ways to stop comment spam in its tracks in order to prevent your website from making a poor first impression. As the popularity of your website grows, spam is likely to become an even larger issue. Here are three effective ways to eliminate the prevalence comment spam on your website:

  1. Restrict commenting on your website

Spammer’s main goal is to post on as many pages and websites as possible. If it is challenging for them to add their comments onto your site, they’ll probably lose interest and just move on to the next target. Restricting comment privileges to people who have registered on your site places an extra hurdle between spammers and your comment section, as well as encouraging visitors to sign up for an account or a membership.

  1. Moderate comments

Comment moderation is when all comments need to be approved by a person before they are permitted to appear on your website. In this way, the chances of spam appearing on your website will dramatically decline.

  1. Use an anti-spam plugin

There are many powerful tools to stop comment spam and can take care of sorting the good comments from the bad for you. Anti-spam plugins are generally connected to a constantly updated database of spam, so it’s very proficient at recognising which comments are trouble and filtering them out.

Spam comments can quickly clutter up your site, making it look unprofessional and driving real visitors away. Cleaning up all that spam is a challenging task. But imperative towards maintaining a clean and professional brand image for your website.
