Tax season during a major rise in cybercrime
It’s common knowledge that cybercrimes have spiked globally during the last two pandemic years with South Africa suffering some of the worst effects internationally. A recent article published by BizCommunity states that “criminals typically rise to the fore in turbulent times looking to take advantage of large-scale disruptions, stressors and distractions. And that the sudden pivot to remote working exposed businesses to unforeseen risks; the fear-driven seeking of Covid information led individuals into waiting for phishing traps; breath-taking ransomware attacks and bold data breaches compromised the personal data of millions of South Africans.”

Desktop as a Service (DaaS) is rapidly becoming an indispensable component of IT according to a recent global survey. This is apparently due to “the expansion of hybrid work models with most business leaders viewing DaaS as a key enabler of secure work within their organisation, and more than 50% have or plan to implement it in the year ahead”.

Cyber risks mounting despite SA corporates being over budget on security
In a recently released State of Cybersecurity in South Africa report, apparently almost three-quarters of South Africa’s top 100 corporates are investing more in cybersecurity than the amount spent on average by their industry.
